A biopsy is simply the removal of a tissue sample to determine if it is diseased. In dentistry, teeth and gums are sent in for a biopsy when a definitive diagnosis is needed. All biopsies done at Montgomery Family Dental are sent to the University of Minnesota Oral Pathology Department and are analyzed by world-renowned oral pathologists from the School of Dentistry. After the excision of an oral lesion, you can expect to have sutures placed in your mouth to close up the location of the biopsy. Your recovery time will depend on the depth of the lesion that was excised.
