Bone grafting is a common procedure that is used frequently for ridge augmentation in denture and implant cases as well as some periodontal procedures. The part of the jawbone that forms a tooth socket is critical for supporting the teeth. Dental implants also need sufficient bone to support them. The bone grafts done at Montgomery Family Dental are done with allograft bone. This bone usually comes from donor or cadaver bone fragments. They are harvested by bone banks and are a very safe source for bone donation. Bone grafts are done comfortably with local anesthesia. The soft tissue may heal in three to four weeks, but bone takes much longer to regenerate. There is usually a three to six month healing period before the implant can be placed.
