It’s estimated that up to four million people at any one time are wearing braces in the United States and Canada. But the doctor and our team at Montgomery Family Dental know that braces have come a long way from the early days of orthodontics, so much so that these days, options are available that are not visible to onlookers. The most popular of these “invisible” braces is Invisalign. Here’s a list of FAQs regarding Invisalign:
Is Invisalign® Right For You?
When patients ask the doctor about who benefits from Invisalign clear aligners, the simple answer is this: almost everyone. Unlike conventional braces, they are removable, which makes eating and cleaning your teeth much easier. They are molded to fit each patient’s mouth and are practically invisible. Because aligners apply less force in straightening teeth than metal braces, the risk of harm to your teeth is reduced.

Watching what you eat or chew on helps to ensure your implants stay in great condition. Is Tooth Sensitivity Permanently Curable?
Tooth sensitivity is a common problem, and many patients encounter pain or discomfort when they eat certain foods that are hot or cold. What Causes Tartar on Teeth and What Does It Do?
Plaque is a sticky bacteria that forms on our teeth. This bacteria attaches to surfaces in the mouth and forms a film on the teeth. In order to keep your teeth and mouth heathy this plaque should be removed regularly. If plaque is not removed the bacteria can accumulate from saliva. The plaque then forms a hard substance that can be white or yellow, and this is called tartar. Plaque and tartar bacteria can damage tooth enamel and lead to cavities.
What are the benefits of Invisalign®?
A popular option for straightening teeth at Montgomery Family Dental, Invisalign can be a great method for improving your smile, and can help patients with crowded teeth, crossbites, overbites, underbites, and more.
What is a water pick and do I need one?
Water picks, sometimes called “oral irrigators,” make an excellent addition to your regular home care regimen of brushing and flossing. Especially helpful to those who suffer from periodontal disease and those patients of ours undergoing orthodontic treatment with full-bracketed braces, water picks use powerful tiny bursts of water to dislodge food scraps, bacteria, and other debris nestled in the crevices of your mouth. Children undergoing orthodontic treatment may find using a water pick is beneficial if their toothbrush bristles tend to get caught on their wires or brackets.
What is gum disease?
Gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is an infection of the gum tissues, and is something seen all too often by the doctor. Extending from inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) to more serious infections and complications (periodontitis), there is a wide range of gum disease severity.

What’s Better for a Tooth Cavity? A Dental Filling or a Root Canal?
When patients have cavities the surface of the tooth is permanently damaged, and tiny holes develop. They can be caused by bacteria, the food you eat or drink, and poor oral hygiene. The severity of the decay, and the condition of the tooth will determine what course of treatment is best. We provide many services for our patients, and your health is our first priority.
What’s the advantage to Invisalign®?
Invisalign, which we happily provide at Montgomery Family Dental, is a great alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment if you've been apprehensive about the thought of metal braces. During your initial visit, the first thing we do is take an impression of your teeth as they are now and digitize it. Using special software, we look at the current positioning of your teeth and compare it to the way your teeth should look.
Why Adults Are Choosing Invisalign®
These days, it’s become more common to see adults at our office getting their teeth straightened with Invisalign clear aligners . . . that is, if you can see them! One of the most charming aspects of your baby’s beautiful smile is his brilliantly white teeth. But now that his adult teeth are coming in, the difference in color is very noticeable. Is this something to be concerned about? Happily, probably not.
Why Should I Get a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges help to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth. Bridges have one or more crowns or implants on either side of the gap and false teeth in-between them. If you have a gap caused by a missing tooth and that gap is embarrassing, a bridge may be right for you. Bridges are typically made from porcelain material, and this looks natural and blends in with your other teeth.
